Until he met Tsubasa, he was famous for having no friends. During his middle school years, he apparently ran around helping others just as he does today, but after a certain incident in his first year of high school he closed himself off from all "unnecessary" human contact. This gets him into one sticky situation after another. Koyomi is generally good-natured and cannot restrain himself from trying to help people (and even vampires) in need, even if it means putting himself in danger or sacrificing his own life. Because he has these abilities and is still connected with the vampire who sired him, he continues to encounter other supernatural creatures. Due to an incident during Spring Break in which he turned into a vampire and never quite returned to being a full human, he retains vampire-like abilities such as super-fast healing. Koyomi (usually called by his surname, Araragi) is a high school senior and the class vice representative. Voiced by (English): Erik Kimerer (Audiobook) Karen's name is written 火憐, and Tsukihi's is 月火. "Fire Sisters" is a reference to how the two of them have the character for "fire" (火) in their names.Koyomi (暦) literally means "calendar" Karen = calendar = ka-re-n-daa and Tsukihi = "moon/month" and "fire", which can be alternately read as 日, "day". The Araragi siblings' names are references to the calendar. In Tsukimonogatari, when Koyomi wrenches Tsukihi's head towards him (to keep her from noticing his lack of reflection), she assumes he's going for a kiss and purses her lips, telling him, "Alright.".Episode 8 of Nisemonogatari has Koyomi pushing Karen onto his bed while brushing her teeth, which arouses both of them for some reason, while she lets him and tells him it's ok.Araragi even calls the two "yuri sisters" after catching them sleeping naked in each other's arms. When things get too hot, however, the left-out sibling appears to put the foot down really fast. Karen and Tsukihi got boyfriends similar to Koyomi to try and make him jealous, and Koyomi doesn't have that much hesitation engaging in. The difference is that Karen's points upwards while Tsukihi's points downwards. Iconic Item: Each Fire Sister dons a hair clip that looks like a fried egg.Free-Range Children: Their parents rarely appear in the series.Expressive Hair: Each of the Araragi has an Idiot Hair that can wiggle around or stand straight up.Deep down they realize that the other side has a point. Koyomi dismisses the whole "Fire Sisters" ordeal as just naive kids playing superheroes, Karen thinks her brother is a Lazy Bum, and Tsukihi thinks her brother is both inexperienced to romance and hopelessly lecherous. Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Koyomi and the Fire Sisters view each other side as foolish, but for different reasons.Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: Koyomi often plays the straight man, but sometimes the roles are reversed.Sometimes this get serious, such as during the Mother's Day when Koyomi doesn't want to stay home due to perceiving himself as The Un Favourite. Annoying Younger Sibling: How Koyomi sees his sisters most of the time, especially when they try to wake him up.
